I've spent years unbraiding and retwisting and splicing large copper electrical conductors 500 mcm - 1000mcm, installing power feeder wires for high rise buildings, industrial buildings, sports stadiums, etc... . I've also had to work with steel braided wires that are the neutral wires coming off the power poles that hold the tension and weight of the wire drops from the power poles. A lot smaller than what these guys are working with but I know what it's like.
